Fork Songs
Album NotesTracks 15 to 20 are CD-Bonus-Tracks originally released 1986
Though New Zealand duo the Tall Dwarfs began their career in 1981, their first full length album, FORK SONGS, wasn't released until 10 years later. It's a compelling mix of low-tech electronics, drum loops, and primitive guitar, set against a backdrop that's part Beatles on "We Bleed Love," and part Velvet Underground on the droning "Skirl," though the hushed ambience of "Thought Disorder" also suggests a passing acquaintance with the Young Marble Giants. Chris Knox's vocals blend the untutored charm of early Brian Eno with the knowingness of John Cale--the result is an unlikely combination of charming innocence and subtle menace. This release also contains the added bonus of the band's 1987 EP, DOGMA.
